Tour Itinerary

Day One: Paris Arrival and Transfer to Normandy

Passengers are greeted at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and transported by private motor coach to Normandy. Enjoy lunch on your own prior to check-in at the hotel in Bayeux. This evening, the group gathers for a welcome dinner at a local French restaurant.

Day Two: Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach

Visit Pointe du Hoc, the scene of an intense battle involving the US Army 2nd Ranger Battalion and German defenders. Pointe du Hoc consists of a 100-foot cliff overlooking the English Channel. This strategic location allowed the Germans to fire both on Utah Beach and Omaha Beach. The site suffered significant bombing in the months leading up to D-Day, but the concrete bunkers and casemates withstood the aerial attacks and are still visible today.

Guests continue to Omaha Beach, a five-mile stretch of flat, open beach backed by large bluffs. The German positions on the bluffs gave the defenders a strategic advantage over the first waves of American soldiers. Chaos and confusion reigned for the first hours of the invasion, but skillful leadership and tenacity enabled the Americans to rally and force their way up the bluffs to capture and silence German gun positions.

Day Four: Sainte-Mère-Église & Utah Beach

This morning starts with a visit to the private Château de Bernaville. Guests travel along rural lanes, past hedgerows and over causeways to La Fiere where the 82nd Airborne fought off four days of attacks from German troops trying to retake this strategic bridge. Next is Sainte-Mère-Église, where paratroopers landed during the predawn hours of D-Day. The group tours the Musée Airborne and visits the church made famous in the film The Longest Day. This afternoon, guests visit Brécourt Manor, where Dick Winters and his men from “Easy” Company made the famous assault on the German guns portrayed in the book and miniseries Band of Brothers. A visit to the Utah Beach Museum is next. Upon arrival in Bayeux, the group enjoys dinner with a local citizen who shares stories of the German occupation and eventual American liberation.

Day Five: Mont-Saint-Michel

Visit the Abbey at Mont-Saint-Michel, a tidal island one mile off the coast of Normandy. Consecrated to the archangel Michael in 708 AD, Mont-Saint-Michel has been a focal point of Norman history through the centuries. Today, its exquisite medieval architecture and panoramic views rank it among the most impressive man-made wonders in the world.

Day Six: Normandy American Cemetery

The group visits the Normandy American Cemetery to pay respects to the 9,387 Americans buried in the ground they helped liberate. A special wreath-laying ceremony will present a wreath from Q50 Races at the foot of the Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves monument. Afterward, visit the final resting places of several soldiers, sailors, and airmen whose personal stories will not be forgotten. The tour today ends with the arrival in Paris. Tour members enjoy this magnificent city individually this evening.
